Vertical Horizons was founded in 2023 by childhood best friends Cameron Jacobs and Luke Ferris from Mill Valley. The idea developed after Simon, one of their very close friends, abruptly passed away. Simon was an incredible human-being who was always pursuing something new with a smile on his face. Cameron and Luke decided they would create something positive and lasting in his memory. This is where the idea of Vertical Horizons came into existence.
Simon was an avid rock climber, he introduced our co-founders to the sport they fell in love with. Rock climbing not only changed Simon’s life, but their own. They wanted to share this positive thing Simon loved so much with others who may be struggling with their emotional well-being. Every time we climb, we can only afford to think about each move necessary to climb the wall in front of us. It allows us to solely focus on the moment, to experience the internal rewards that the brain equates with effort, perseverance and connection to a community and sport.
In addition to Cameron and Luke, Vertical Horizons is supported by an amazing staff consisting of climbers, volunteers, and professionals in the mental health field. They deeply believe in Vertical Horizons mission to improve the emotional well-being of others, one climb at a time. We are always looking for more help so click the link below if you are interested!
